Final Project Musings (Reflections)

Five things I learned.....
1. I learned that type can be dated as far back as Roman times.

2. An ascender is the part of a lowercase letterform that extends above the body of the letterform.

3. Layout influences the way words are perceived and the emotion associated with them.

4. Grids are important, and a piece of work depends on that grid to create a successful publication.

5. Colors, imagery, and texture can effect the mood associated with type. They also influence the viewers emotions and how they feel about the particular piece.

As evidence by my final type publication.

Five Things I Should Have Learned.....
1. From Brianna's publication I learned that incorporating the logo throughout the publication works, and it works well.

2. From Delaney's publication I learned that color scheme needs to be incorporated throughout the whole publication, what you do to one you need to incorporate into another.

3. From Jenyanne's publication I learned that pattern and texture add context to the piece, and it ties the entire piece together. It adds interest to the publication.

4. From Jordon's publication I learned that choosing a concept and using it to influence the entire publication helps with consistency and it helps to tie the entire book together.

5. From Brendon's publication I learned that, when choosing a simplistic theme, it helps to make sure that there is negative space, and that it is balanced with the positive space throughout the entire book. Negative space is a good thing, and it allows the eyes to breathe, as opposed to constantly having to take in information.

Five Things I Refused to Learn About Type.....
1. I refused to learn how to not decorate my type.

2. I refused to learn how to use InDesign.

3. I refused to learn how to perfectly follow a grid.

4. I refused to learn how to create overly complicated designs.

5. I refused to learn how to align things with in relationship to each other.
