A1-Good Typography?


1.     Why did you choose this as your graphic design example?
a.    I liked the simple straight forward design of this particular magazine spread.
b.    I liked the colors, and how direct and to the point the words are. They make you think, before you read the article.
2.     What is the context in which the design appeared?
a.    The design appeared in a 2008 National Geographic issue that covered the man that Wallace was. It also looked into the complexities of the man and how he developed his theory of evolution.
b.    The purpose of the design is to make readers aware of Wallace, who he was and what he believed.
3.     What is the communication objective of the design?
a.    To show the journey of Alfred Wallace towards discovering a new route towards evolution.
b.    It wants you to be aware that the main subject of the following piece is not Darwin, but Wallace.
c.    National Geographic is the sender of this message, they have studied and interviewed this man to be more aware of what he thinks.
d.    The intended audience is, individuals who are interested in some type of scientific element. Maybe those who have studied some form of science.
4.     How does the typography contribute to the message and the purpose of the design?
a.    The typography is rather traditional, it’s not extreme, crazy, or overzealous. The typography is easy to read, it is straight to the point and is not difficult to understand.
b.     The type incorporates the concept of simplicity, and it even gives it an element of old time books.
c.    The typographic craft is a significant element. The type is what draws the attention to the article, and what draws the eyes to the two images throughout the spread. The colors and style of the type adds to the themes, of the article.
